Stäubli Expands BosCon Portfolio with Permanent Protective Caps and Panel Receptacles for Enhanced Protection and Performance

PR Newswire

WINDSOR, Calif., Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Stäubli is expanding its BosCon connector portfolio with the introduction of BosCon permanent protective caps and BosCon panel receptacles, delivering a comprehensive solution for safe, high-power connections and long-term system performance.

With the expansion of the BosCon portfolio, Stäubli introduces BosCon panel receptacles and permanent protective caps for safe, reliable connections in demanding large-scale applications.

Designed to work together with the BosCon connectors, the new permanent protective caps and panel receptacles enhance the flexibility, safety, and durability of trunk cable systems used in utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) applications, as well as emerging sectors such as battery energy storage systems (BESS) and EV charging infrastructure.

The BosCon panel receptacles provide a robust interface for connection of trunk cables to power equipment such as combiner boxes, load break disconnect devices and central inverters, to name a few. Rated for up to AC/DC 1500 V and 620 A (depending on connected conductor size and material), they are engineered to support large-diameter trunk cables and enable efficient power distribution. Both products are certified according to UL6703 and SCA C22.2 No. 182.5.

Available termination variants include:

  • Fork contact: plugs onto a busbar (no fasteners required) inside the electrical enclosure; rated up to 620 A
  • External thread contact or internal thread contact: copper or aluminum cable can be connected via a cable lug; rated up to 620A (with 500 MCM copper cable)
  • The panel receptacles incorporate MULTILAM™ contact technology, ensuring low contact resistance and consistent contact force for stable, efficient performance. Built for harsh conditions, they feature up to IP68 sealing, mechanical and color coding, and tool-assisted locking mechanisms to maintain safe, reliable connections in outdoor environments.

Complementing these capabilities, the BosCon permanent protective caps provide critical protection for unmated connectors and unused panel receptacles. Designed for long-term durability, the caps safeguard connection points from environmental exposure while maintaining system safety and readiness. With integrated tag loop, they can also serve as Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) devices for safe system maintenance.

The Permanent Protective Caps also enable greater system modularity, making it easier to expand or reconfigure installations over time. They are tested and certified for use as a permanent protective cap on a live system, such as for covering unused panel receptacles or as an end of line termination, and allow for future expansion on a trunk line.

“Together, the BosCon Connectors, Panel Receptacles and Permanent Protective Caps deliver a complete solution for both active and inactive connection points,” said Brian Mills, Head of Renewable Energy at Stäubli North America

“We developed the BosCon line to address the growing demand for large-format, high-power connections in the North American PV market. With the addition of these products, customers can achieve both reliable performance and long-term protection, while simplifying installation and enabling future system expansion.”

As part of the broader Stäubli renewable energy ecosystem—including the Original MC4 connector, BosCon cable harness solutions, and service offerings—the expanded BosCon portfolio strengthens Stäubli’s position as a key partner in utility-scale PV and large-conductor eBOS systems. The full BosCon line is cULus certified and designed to reduce installation time and cost while supporting scalable, modular system architectures.
